Samsung QLED vs Sony BRAVIA — Battle of 4K TVs Under ₹1 Lakh

June 15, 2026· 5 min read

The Two Giants of Premium 4K Television

When Mumbai buyers walk into an electronics showroom looking for a premium 4K television under ₹1 lakh, two brands dominate the conversation: Samsung and Sony. Both make exceptional televisions. Both have decades of display technology investment behind them. And both have models in the ₹50,000–₹99,000 range that deliver genuinely impressive home cinema experiences. The question is which one is right for your specific home, usage, and priorities.

Display Technology — QLED vs BRAVIA LED

Samsung's QLED (Quantum Light Emitting Diode) technology uses quantum dots — microscopic semiconductor particles — to enhance the colour performance of a traditional LED backlit LCD panel. The result is exceptional brightness, vivid colour volume, and strong performance in bright rooms. Samsung QLED TVs in the under-₹1 lakh range (such as the Q60D and Q70D series) regularly hit 400–600 nits of peak brightness, making them well-suited to Mumbai living rooms where afternoon sunlight can be intense.

Sony BRAVIA TVs in this price range use Sony's X-Reality PRO and TRILUMINOS Display processing technology. Rather than competing purely on raw brightness, Sony emphasises natural colour accuracy, smoother motion handling, and processing quality. Sony's X1 processor (found in the BRAVIA 3 and X75L series in this price segment) analyses and upscales content scene by scene, which makes a noticeable difference when watching standard definition or Full HD content on a 4K screen — something relevant for Indian viewers who consume a lot of streaming content at variable bitrates.

Picture Quality — Who Wins?

For a brightly lit Mumbai living room with afternoon sun coming through the windows: Samsung QLED has the edge. The higher brightness and anti-reflective panel coatings on Samsung models handle ambient light better. For evening viewing in a controlled light environment — a home theatre room or a bedroom — Sony's more natural colour calibration and superior motion processing give it the advantage, particularly for films and sports. Both deliver excellent 4K HDR performance. If your primary use is streaming on platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hotstar — which cover the majority of Indian viewing — both are excellent, and the difference is subtle.

Sound Quality

Sony has a long-standing reputation for audio engineering, and it shows in the BRAVIA range. Sony's Acoustic Multi-Audio and Acoustic Centre Sync technologies (available on select models) create a more immersive sound stage than most flat panel TVs deliver. Samsung's built-in audio on QLED models in this range is competent but more conventional. If you plan to use the TV's built-in speakers without a soundbar, Sony has a meaningful advantage. If you plan to add a soundbar (which we always recommend for the best audio experience regardless of brand), this distinction matters less.

Smart TV Platform

Samsung runs its Tizen OS — one of the fastest, most polished smart TV platforms available. App loading times are quick, the interface is intuitive, and Samsung's ecosystem integration (SmartThings, DeX, gaming hub) is unmatched. Sony runs Google TV, which offers the largest app library of any smart TV platform and seamless Google ecosystem integration including Google Assistant, Chromecast, and YouTube. For Mumbai viewers who use Android phones and Google services heavily, Google TV feels more natural. For those already in the Samsung ecosystem, Tizen is the better experience.

Gaming Performance

If gaming on a PlayStation or Xbox is part of your use case, Samsung QLED pulls ahead clearly. Samsung's Gaming Hub, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support are better implemented across the QLED range in this budget. Sony's BRAVIA TVs pair particularly well with PlayStation 5 (due to Sony's own PS5 integration), but Samsung's gaming features are more comprehensive across all gaming platforms.

Value at Under ₹1 Lakh

  • Samsung 55" QLED Q60D: Available around ₹65,000–₹72,000. Excellent brightness, QLED colour, Tizen OS, solid gaming specs. Best all-rounder for most Mumbai living rooms.
  • Samsung 65" QLED Q60D: Available around ₹85,000–₹95,000. Exceptional value for a 65-inch QLED panel at this price.
  • Sony 55" BRAVIA 3 (X75L): Available around ₹60,000–₹68,000. Superior motion handling, Google TV, excellent for streaming and films.
  • Sony 65" BRAVIA 3: Available around ₹88,000–₹98,000. Best-in-class processing for a 65-inch TV at this price point.

Our Verdict for Mumbai Buyers

Choose Samsung QLED if your living room gets a lot of natural light, you game on multiple platforms, or you prefer a faster and more polished smart TV interface. Choose Sony BRAVIA if you prioritise natural picture quality for films and sports, watch a lot of streamed content at varied quality levels, or want the best built-in audio without a soundbar. Both are excellent — you cannot go wrong with either at this price point.
